In this edition of Trends in the U.S. Healthcare Industry, our founder and principal consultant, Mike Rawaan, is joined by Dr. Mike Cantor, MD, JD, to discuss policies and trends impacting healthcare providers.

The U.S. Healthcare Providers segment is growing in terms of the number of providers, albeit at a slower rate than the U.S. Census. However, the numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. We are seeing fewer providers where we need them the most, specifically in rural regions of the country, and we are witnessing slower growth in primary care providers compared to other specialties, which is very alarming.

Beyond the numbers, providers face many challenges in 2025, including:

  • Financial sustainability

  • Changes in policy

  • Introduction of new drugs and therapies

  • Innovations in AI and technology

  • Workforce shortage

  • Cybersecurity threats

Additional pressures are brewing on hospitals who may bear the cost of care for the ~10.9 million Americans who could lose their Medicaid coverage.
